Naxos Old Town Sunset Walking Tour

Discover Naxos Town through a beautiful sunset walking tour that takes you through the island’s medieval past, narrow alleys, hidden corners and most iconic landmark.

This guided walk begins at the South Gate of the Venetian Castle, known as Paraporti. From there, you enter the colourful alleys of the old castle area, surrounded by architecture from another era and the unique atmosphere of medieval Naxos.

As you walk through the castle, you will pass by the Ursuline nuns’ monastery and school and visit “1739” café, located on the terrace of the former Ursuline dormitories. From this special spot, you can enjoy one of the most impressive views over Naxos Town and the surrounding area.

The route continues towards the Catholic Cathedral and the East Gate. Through the maze of narrow, characteristic alleys, you reach the North Gate, known as Trani Porta, before continuing towards the port of Naxos.

You will then stroll through the Old Market, a lively and inviting area filled with souvenir shops, art shops and traditional corners, perfect for photos and discovering the local atmosphere.

When you reach the main seafront, you will enjoy a short break with a tasting of citron liqueur, the famous traditional drink of Naxos.

The final stop is Portara, the landmark of Naxos. Here, you will admire the size, history and grandeur of the ancient marble gate while enjoying a magnificent sunset over the Aegean Sea.
